Where is time going?
I don't mean the years, well, I do, but in this case I am referring to the 18 hours or so we are awake. When you are not on a schedule of a full time job from 8 to 6, sometimes you can just see the day going by and not find that sense of accomplishment, that very important, top priority to-do list making the money wheel spin. In fact we can have the sensation while working from 8 to 6. It's when you can't find the time to go to the gym or taking a course to improve your skills or learn something new. The sense then is of just living in the same exausting routine forever.
One of these days I watched the movie "The Theory of Everything" that tells the story about Stephen Hawking and his first wife, Jane Wilde. During the entire movie I wondered how she could manage doing all she did. For a long time Stephen didn't agree on having a nurse or a cleaning person to help Jane. She was all by herself doing all the house work, cooking, having babies, taking care of the kids and her husband very special needs.
Did time passed differently before the internet and the whole mobile revolution?
I often remind being at my father's company in the early 90's and seeing how operations were done back then. Everything was mailed, clients records were on a paper file alphabetically organized in a plastic bin, service orders were on a word document without much tracking and international purchase orders were done by fax. There was no e-mail. No ERP. And things worked.
Where did we put ourselves into? Communications are so fast but yet we have no time left to ourselves? Still must we always overwork to have the fulfillment feeling?
My goal during this period is to find this balance. To get rid off of all actions that make me feel like I am not accomplishing my targets. One day at a time. This week I am trying to unplug 1 hour before going to sleep. It worked on Sunday and Monday. Tuesday was a disaster. I had a lot of wrap up work to do to send to accounting for processing and other issues came up at night which made me go on in 3 FaceTime conferences with my father and back to the computer for replying e-mails. At 11pm I was on facebook watching president Dilma giving a horrible non-sense speech. Yes, what a waste of time! Waste of real relaxing, meditating, spiritual growing time.
I have plans on making tonight different. One unplug at a time.
Can you imagine a badge of soberness but for social media?
- Let's give Thali a big applause as she is completing her 7 days without wasting time on any social media! Thali, here's your badge. Do you want to say something?
- Oh, thank you, yes! I want to say that it was difficult I really wanted to scroll down and read a bunch of headlines created by professional content creators but I sticked to the plan and the results were amazing. I am sleeping much better, no waking up in the middle of the night and I am definitely waking up with more energy. Thank you, group!
:)
Time to pick up Melissa at school.
Bye.
Oh, before I go: Jane Wilde got her PhD in Medieval Spanish Poetry in 1981. Yes: Wow!
